Project description

At Melexis, you'll explore how sensors enhance Li-ion battery performance, critical for electric vehicles (EVs) and battery energy storage systems (BESS). Optimizing their performance is paramount for a sustainable future. This internship provides hands-on experience with Melexis' advanced sensor technology, contributing to innovative battery management system (BMS) solutions. In a fully equipped lab, you'll gain skills in prototyping, characterization, and battery performance analysis. You'll investigate how sensor measurements enhance key parameters like state-of-charge and state-of-health, contributing to improved Li-ion battery performance and lifespan.

Project goals:

  • Evaluate Melexis sensor system stability and robustness in harsh battery cell environments, simulating real-world conditions.
  • Investigate advanced sensing concepts for comprehensive cell level characterization, exploring novel data acquisition and interpretation methods and classic Li-ion batteries but also next generation cell technologies acquired through the Melexis customer base.
  • Develop demonstration prototypes showcasing advanced cell characterization for BESS and EV applications, integrating sensors, data acquisition, and control electronics.

Your profile

  • Background in Bioengineering, Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering (Electronics/Chemistry/Nanoscience). Interest in sensors, batteries, or materials science preferred.
  • Type of Work: Primarily experimental (90%), with 10% literature review.
