Triaxis® performance rotary & linear position sensor IC (PSI-5)
MLX90373 MelexisThe MLX90373 enables customers to implement the PSI5 protocol in their products. This is useful for many applications like chassis height sensors and some steering applications. The 2-wire bus capability can help to reduce wire harness count while the ability to have 4 configurable time slots allows to transmit more pieces of information per sensor like position, velocity, or temperature.

Triaxis® performance rotary & linear position sensor IC (PSI-5) - MLX90373
Product description
The MLX90373 is a third generation Triaxis® position sensor IC with PSI5 output and a PCB-less solution. Thanks to an integrated magnetic concentrator (IMC) on its surface, the monolithic device senses, in a contactless fashion, the three spatial components (i.e. Bx, By and Bz) of the applied magnetic field allowing for the determination of rotary and linear movement.
Triaxis® is an innovative magnetic sensor technology capable of very precise three axis magnetic field measurements from a single sensor. Endless linear, angular and 3D applications can be developed.
The MLX90373 expands the Gen III portfolio by offering a PSI5 output complementing the analog, PWM, and SENT outputs available on the MLX90371 and MLX90372 devices. Offering a rotary mode with stray field robustness (180 degrees) it is suitable for applications subjected to stray fields like those found in electrified vehicle drivetrains. An additional non-stray field robust mode of operation is also offered to support backwards compatibility with previous magnetic designs.
The MLX90373 is offered as an ASIL-C SEooC (Safety Element out of Context - ISO 26262) component. Contact Melexis to obtain a copy of the MLX90373 safety manual which details the relevant system integration requirements. For applications requiring redundant sensing the MLX90373 is also available in a dual die (fully redundant) TSSOP-16 package.
The output transfer characteristic is fully programmable with up to 32 calibration points to match any specific requirement through end-of-line programming at module assembly. The Melexis programming unit PTC-04 communicates and calibrates the device exclusively through the connector terminals (Vdd-Vss).
The MLX90373 also brings the ability to read an external input. This could be a signal from a temperature sensor, pressure sensor, or another position sensor. The value is measured, linearized (optional), and then encoded for transmission on the PSI5 bus alongside the angular measurement value allowing for reduction of wire count and better integration of sensors.
The MLX90373 targets and is used in a myriad of non-contacting rotary position sensor applications which are frequently seen in automotive and industrial systems. The IC is available in single and dual redundant implementations to cost-effectively address the full range of applications, including safety critical sensing requirements.
