Melexis adds Locally Sourced Semiconductor Manufacturing and Logistics in China
Tessenderlo-Ham, Belgium – April 16, 2025 – Melexis (Euronext Brussels: MELE), a global supplier of micro-electronic semiconductor solutions, announces the next step in its China strategy – a move designed to further strengthen its commitment to the rapidly growing and innovative Chinese market: expanding on its existing operations by establishing a locally embedded logistics hub and end-to-end local manufacturing in China. The strategy represents a significant enhancement that reinforces the company’s customer-first philosophy.
Melexis in China and China’s Growing Importance
The growth of China’s automotive, consumer, industrial, and robotics industries has made the region a key focus for Melexis. In 2024, the Asia-Pacific (APAC) area accounted for 60% of Melexis’ total sales, with Greater China contributing nearly half of that. Melexis has secured notable design wins in China, particularly in automotive powertrain, interior lighting, steering, and braking systems, offering Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) noticeable performance and reliability improvements with its advanced sensing and drive integrated circuit (IC) solutions.
These accomplishments demonstrate the value of Melexis’ sustained commitment and investment in China and APAC, proven by the fact that Melexis has already made good progress in executing its local China strategy.
Melexis Strengthens its China Strategy
Melexis’ China strategy, building on more than 20 years of dedicated efforts, now enters a new phase designed to stay at the forefront of innovation and to intensify customer collaboration, while reducing lead times.
Commencing in early 2024, Melexis established a partnership to outsource semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) locally in China to aid its ability to serve the region. Since late 2024 and as part of its expanded strategy, Melexis has collaborated with a Chinese semiconductor wafer fabrication partner to manufacture products developed by Melexis, tailored to the Chinese market, and scheduled to enter production in the first half of 2026.
In addition a new, larger office space was opened in Shanghai in March 2025. This expanded space serves as a core hub for sales, marketing, brand presence, technical support, and engineering activities, enabling Melexis’ local teams to deliver even more comprehensive and timely service within China.
Through these new initiatives, Melexis is combining the advantage of its recognized European design expertise with the strength of its regional teams, allowing it to offer innovative products majorly in automotive, robotics and digital health sectors.
Speaking about the announcement, Dieter Verstreken, VP of China Strategy at Melexis, commented, “With this announcement, we continue and expand our strategic roadmap in China. Melexis has grown its activities in China for more than 20 years, and in 2024, we concluded an agreement for end-to-end local manufacturing.” He continued, “This exciting next step will see new products coming from our Chinese wafer manufacturer from early 2026, helping to improve lead times. This is especially critical in this fast-growing market, and our existing customers have already responded favorably.”
